Dear Reader,
As we assemble our gratitude, it becomes so much more than the sum of its parts. I love the idea of a gratitude assembly. I am thankful for all of you who have engaged and grown the When Women Fly community. Yes, we are a podcast, but conversations about our stories are testaments to our life, our hopes and dreams and setbacks. I am grateful for the opportunity to have even the most minute impact on your life journey. Thank you. I am honored you are here.
Whether you’re starting conversations or steering them to safety over the holidays, you’ll be thankful for the conversation starters embedded in the stories you have heard on the 60 episodes of When Women Fly.
Ok, here are some:
Episode 059: Ask Me Anything with Sylvia Winter on Growth, Guests, and Gratitude
This is the first installment of our newly-minted ‘Ask Me Anything’ themed series — a twist on my usual format in which I share my thoughts on select topics and answer audience questions.
I take questions from When Women Fly audience exploring my growth edge, stepping outside our comfort zone, and how committing to a practice that challenges us can push us towards growth.
Topics Include:
Thank you for tuning in!
Episode 007: Comradery & Backcountry with Kim Havell - Professional Skier, Guide, Writer
Celebrating family and friends remains the central motive for this week of Thanksgiving. In this encore episode, I connect with high school friend, Kim Havell, of Jackson Hole, Wyoming - a mountaineer, professional skier, and mom. Outside Magazine named Kim as a “Preeminent Female Ski Mountaineer of our Time” in 2012. She was listed by Backcountry Magazine as one of “37 Most Important Women in Backcountry”. She has a lineup of past and present sponsors including Salomon and Osprey.
Kim shares how she made her way in the mountain sport world, and her transition into parenthood.
We covered:
As usual, we really, really deeply appreciate you joining us on the When Women Fly journey. You’re the reason why we do this. So without this community of courageous, adventurous, imperfect, and open-minded humans, we would not be doing the work. So thank you, and I’ll see you next time.
Take a minute to leave us a review on Apple Podcasts. This helps distribute these conversations to more listeners and gives me great feedback.
Be bold. Be brave. And FLY!
See you next time,
Sylvia Winter, Founder & Podcast Host of When Women Fly

AIR BORN 2.11 Dear Reader, How are you? I have this recurrent dream of puzzle pieces and working on multiple puzzles simultaneously with pieces that just won't fit. I awake with thoughts of when to surrender and switch puzzles and when to stay determined and focused. It is a nutty time we are all in, without any resolution or any clear vision about what the future will bring. The last couple When Women Fly episodes have been short and pithy theme based essays, like experiments, that go deep...
AIR BORN 2.9 Dear Reader, When I talk to Shaesta Waiz about her record-breaking solo flight around the globe, I can’t stop thinking of courage and its many forms and variants. When I ask her how she did it, from a psychological perspective, she describes a laser focus on the task at hand – to fly the plane- and a clarity of intent – to circumnavigate the globe with a message. Laser focus is the superpower. Courage is the adaptation. That is how she flew across an ocean in the summer’s heat...
AIR BORN 2.8 Dear Reader, “Turn the clocks back” It’s a phrase in the dictionary meaning to return to a situation that used to exist, usually because the present situation is unpleasant. Hmm... Interesting as we absorb daylight savings this week, turn our clocks back, and ponder change, in seasons and life...This week we peal beneath the surface and fixate on personal transformation, grinding, knowing when to change course, and the ever-elusive growth edge. This week's episode with the...
